Top 10 Reasons You Should Be Envolved In The Performing Arts

1. Creativity- Students learn how to think out of the box and come up with solutions. Every time we perform a work it is different and new.

2. Confidence building- Students have to perform in front of large audiences. This takes courage and when you are successful it leads to confidence.

3. Accountability- To perform a show or band performance we all have our separate parts that have to be heard. Your teammates rely on you.

4. Well rounded student. Colleges and Universities expect great academic performance. They are looking for passionate students who are unique, creative and interesting.

5. Collaboration- All performing arts collaborate as a team. One of the best ways to see this collorabtion is to attend a performance. In a band all of the students have different parts but work collectively to make beautiful music.

6. Perseverance- In order to continue to get better you have to practice. Students will have to practice their craft over and over. Also, we audition for parts in a play, band or job. When students have opportunities to interview they will begin to understand that it takes a lot of no's to get a yes.

7. A safe place to express yourself. All of our students are unique and we enjoy seeing them grow into artist. It is also a way to get out or release built up emotions.

8. Self Discipline- Students will have to practice at home to get better. This takes self discipline, a desire to learn more and make your creative work better everyday. You will need this skill at college, no one will be there to tell you to do your homework.

9. You learn how to take constructive criticism.- Thank you, I will work on that. I appreciate your thoughts on my work.

10. Empathy- In order to perform a work well we have to understand the background, culture, and history of a show or piece of music. The arts encourages to show compassion and tolerance of others.

Extra #11- I have never known a student who regreted being in band for all four years but I have had hundreds, maybe more like thousands of people tell me they wish they had never stopped performing, playing and creating. ~Mrs. Williams
